What Is Autism?

Autism, also known as Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), is a neurodevelopmental condition that affects how a person communicates, interacts socially, and experiences the world around them. Autism is not an illness or something that needs to be “cured” it is a different way of thinking, learning, and processing information.

Every child with autism is unique, and signs can vary widely from one individual to another.

Early Signs of Autism in Children

Early signs of autism often appear in toddlers and young children, sometimes as early as 12–18 months. These signs may relate to communication, social interaction, play behaviour, or sensory sensitivity.

Recognising these signs early can help families seek guidance, support, and early intervention when needed.
